Campaigning for the Economic Stimulus

President Obama held a prime time press conference last night to make his case for the economic stimulus package directly to the American people. The President has put forward his plan for comprise on the Senate and House versions of the bill. What role does the president play in developing legislation, and what impact can he have with his “campaign” of support?

Classroom Activities:
-Have students examine Article I and Article II of the United States Constitution and identify the role of the president in passing legislation.
-Using the Center’s Citizen’s Help Desk to have students write letters of support or opposition to bill, directly to their Representative or Senator.
